Troubleshooting Tips
This checklist outlines some general hints and
guidelines that will be helpful in tracking down and
correcting operating problems.
Dealing with multiple errors
If multiple errors are raised at once, the
corresponding error messages will stack on the
HMI display with the highest priority message on
top.
It is recommended to photograph or otherwise
record each error message before clearing it from
the HMI. Then consult the fault log to determine
which of these errors was raised first and begin
troubleshooting by locating the entry for that error.
Going through the troubleshooting trees
It is recommended to follow the order of actions
suggested by the troubleshooting trees when
troubleshooting to ensure a systematic process.
Since systems interact with each other, specific
troubleshooting trees might refer to other trees,
therefore, it is always required to recheck the initial
troubleshooting tree after having switched to
another tree.
Systems not provided by Dana are not
covered in this guide
Systems that are not provided or selected by Dana
are not covered by this troubleshooting guide and
might require use of additional external
documentation.
Root causes outside the scope of this guide
This guide is meant to cover a dealership / garage
level of troubleshooting. Some root causes require
specialized troubleshooting or other support from
Dana. If the troubleshooting tree does not provide
a solution to troubleshoot or solve an issue, please
contact Dana for further investigation.
A cleared code alone does not indicate a
corrected problem
An error code is set by a specific fault condition
and may be cleared by switching the ignition off
and then on. It is possible to clear an error
message only to have it appear again when the
fault condition reoccurs. To make sure an issue is
fixed, be sure to run the system through the same
operating modes that caused the issue and verify
that the error code does not reappear.
Errors during charging
If an error was found after the vehicle has been
charging unattended, always consult the fault log to
find all errors raised during the charging session.
Disconnect the Vehicle Control Unit
connector with ignition off
To avoid setting electrical fault codes, make sure
that the ignition is switched off before
disconnecting the wire harness connection.
Connect the connector before switching on the
ignition.
Inspecting wiring for continuity failure
When inspecting LV, HV, or CAN wiring, continuity
failure includes visible defects like broken cables or
connector defects. If needed, further investigation
will be undertaken at the request of Dana experts.
If the problem can be traced to a continuity failure,
repair or replace the wiring or connectors
accordingly. During inspection of any system
wiring, also pay attention to the system grounding,
it may be a cause of the fault.
Intermittent faults
If an error appears intermittently or if the error
disappeared on the way to the dealership, gather
as much information as possible about the
circumstances in which the error appeared and
perform a test drive under similar circumstances to
see if the error reappears.
