When using L-band, a LNB (Low-Noise Block) may be included in the system. It cannot be
monitored and/or controlled by the modem, except for the power supply values. For a modem in a
1:1 redundancy set-up, the fault indications need to be customized for the physical set-up.
Consider:
Two modems, two LNBs in parallel:
If a fault occurred on the active modem/LNB pair,
switchover is desired, so you should configure the LNB mask to
Attach to Rx alarm
.
The other (more regularly encountered) redundancy set-up:
Two modems in parallel, one LNB:
If a fault occurred on the active modem, switchover is
desired. If a fault occurred on the LNB, a switchover of modems might or might not fix the
problem. If switchover should be implemented, the user should configure the LNB mask:
Attach to Rx alarm=Yes
.
If the system had no redundancy, but was attached to an external audio alarm,
Attaching to
Rx alarm
would cause a LNB fault to be indicated, as the fault would be included in the
FORM C alarms.
