T-Series Traffic Director Installation, Configuration and Administration Guide
GSM
Global System for Mobile communication. GSM is a second generation (2G) mobile wireless
networking standard defined by ETSI. GSM uses
technology and operates in the 900 MHz
radio band. See also
and
GSN
GPRS Support Node. GSN refers to the general functions of a group of both GGSNs and SGSNs in
a GPRS network.
GUI
HA
Home Agent. The HA is a router that facilitates mobile computing on CDMA networks by
intercepting packets sent to a mobile node's home address and forwarding them to the registered
care-of address.
heartbeat
A repetitive signal passed from one system to another to communicate the state of “health” of the
sending system.
HLR
Home Location Register. The HLR is a database in a cellular system that contains all the
subscribers within the providers home service area. When a subscriber reaches a new service area,
the data in the HLR is requested and transferred via SS7 to the VLR in the new area. The HLR is
considered a critical database as it stores permanent data about subscribers, including a subscriber's
service profile, location information, and activity status. See
HTML
Hypertext Markup Language. The document format used to construct Web pages. HTML
documents contain embedded codes, or tags, that define the formatting and the hypertext links to
other documents on the Web. See
.
HTTP
HyperText Transfer Protocol. The underlying communications protocol used to establish a
connection to a server on the World Wide Web and to transmit HTML pages to a client browser.
Non-secure Web site addresses begin with the http:// prefix. See
.
HTTPS
Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure. The protocol used to access a secure Web server. When
HTTPS is used in the URL instead of HTTP, the message is directed to a secure port number rather
than to the default Web port number of 80. The session is then managed by a security protocol that
encrypts and decrypts user page requests as well as the pages that are returned by the Web server.
HTTPS uses
(Secure Socket Layer) as a sublayer under a browser’s regular HTTP application
layer. Web site addresses that use the HTTPS protocol begin with the https:// prefix.
ICAP
IETF
protocol and the MIBs that enable interoperability between vendors products.
