Advanced IP Parameters – Static Routes
Typically, a router uses dynamic routes to learn how to reach network destinations.
Dynamic routes are determined from the information exchanged by the routing protocols
and, as the name implies, these may change as networks conditions change. Static
Routes are used by the router when it does not have a route to a destination that has a
better (lower) preference value, when it cannot determine the route to a destination,
and/or when it is forwarding packets that cannot be routed. The Remote Static Routes
screen is shown below:

The Administrator assigns the
IP Address

Subnet Mask
and
Gateway Address
for
each route. Routes 1 – 10 all have the same menu items
1. Configuring the static route
Address
– The IP address(es) should be obtained from
the corporate IT Administrator prior to configuring the Remote.
2. Configuring
the
Subnet Mask
- The subnet mask(s) should be obtained from the
corporate IT Administrator prior to configuring the Remote.
3. The
Default Router
– The default router(s) should be obtained from the corporate IT
Administrator prior to configuring the Remote.
