Cisco Content Delivery Engine 205/220/250/280/285/420/460/475 Hardware Installation Guide
Chapter 3 Installing the Content Delivery Engines
Installing the CDEs
describes the visual and audible alarm indicators.
To locate a device on a CDE250 or identify its state, enter the following command on the Linux console:
echo O1 >
/proc/cds/cdd/disks/
<
device_name>
For example, to identify the location of csd10, enter the following command:
echo 0x1 >
/proc/cds/cdd/disks/csd10
Reenter the command to remove the visual indicator and audible alarm from the chassis.
On all other CDEs, to see the name of a failed drive, look at the Linux console or the /var/log/messages
log file. If the system reports that a storage drive has failed and was abandoned by the system, this device
can simply be removed. However, if you are replacing or upgrading a storage drive that has not failed, it
is still active and you must first enter the following command on the Linux console at user root:
echo csd12>
/proc/cds/cdd/remove_device
A few moments later the message “Disk device 12 has been removed from the file system” appears on
the console and you can now remove the storage drive from the CDE. Once you insert the new storage
drive, you must first enter the following command on the Linux console at user root:
echo csd12>
/proc/cds/cdd/make_well
A few moments later the message “Found disk device 12” appears on the console.
Perform the following steps to remove a storage drive tray from the chassis:
Step 1
Press the release tab on the storage drive tray. This extends the storage drive bay handle (see
Step 2
Use the handle to pull the storage drive out of the chassis.
Note
The illustrations show SATA drives. The procedure for installing SSD drives is identical.
Note
CDE250 storage drives are oriented vertically (see
), but the removal procedure is the
same.
