Installing the CDEs
Rail Kits
First generation CDEs originally shipped with the Rev. A rail kit. This kit required screws to mount the
rails to the rack. Replacement CDEs and CDEs shipped with Cisco TV CDS Release 2.4 software or later
come with the Rev. B quick release rail kit in short rail or long rail sizes. The dimensions of the rails are
as follows:
•
Rev. B long rails range from 26.5 to 36.4 inches.
•
Rev. B short rails range from 19 to 26 inches.
•
Rev. A rails only come range from 27 to 34 inches.
Note
Retain your original inner rails in case the unit is returned by an RMA.

Note
The slide rails supplied by Cisco Systems for the CDE280 engine does not require tools for installation
if you install them in a rack that has square 0.38-inch (9.6 mm), round 0.28-inch (7.1 mm), or #12-24
UNC threaded holes.
Installing a CDE205, CDE220, in the Rack Using a Rev. A Rail Kit
This section provides information on installing the CDE205, CDE220, chassis into a rack using the Rev.
A rail kit. There are a variety of racks on the market, which may mean that the assembly procedures will
differ slightly. You should also see the installation instructions that came with the rack you are using.
Note
This rail will fit a rack between 26 inches and 33.5 inches in depth.
Identifying the Rev. A Inner Rack Rails
The chassis package includes two rack-rail assemblies in the rack-mounting kit. Each assembly consists
of two sections: an inner fixed chassis rail that secures directly to the CDE chassis and an outer fixed
rack-rail that secures directly to the rack itself (see
Figure 3-11 ).
