BRAKES 5-11
F ig . 20 —Brake Pedal Free Movement
3. Tighten locknut on adjustable push rod and recheck
free travel.
4. Adjust brake light switch by pulling back on pedal
unit until contact is made with pedal stop or gauge
blocks. Stop lamps should go on after approximately
1.10 pedal pad travel.
5. On CA-KA 10-20 and CA-30 Series, brake pedal must
support a 90# load applied perpendicular to center of
pedal pad at height not less than 3.5 inches measured
perpendicular to the toe pan from the lower edge of
pedal. See Figure 19.
BRAKE PEDAL & PUSH ROD TRAVEL
ADJUSTMENT
A definite pedal push rod-to-main cylinder piston
clearance must be maintained on the dash mounted main
cylinder units. This clearance is adjusted as follows:
Threaded Rod Type Adjustment
1. After the brake pedal and pedal bumper have been
assembled, install the push rod and its attaching
parts. Tighten nut to 18 to 25 ft. lbs. torque. Then to
obtain the correct clearance between the push rod
and the master cylinder, adjust the push rod so that
the free pedal travel measured at the center of the
pedal pad is approximately 1/8 inch (fig. 20).
2. After tightening the locknut on the adjustable push
rod to 17-23 ft. lbs. torque, recheck free travel.
3. Stop light switch should be adjusted if necessary, so
that electrical contact is made at approximately
13/16 inch pedal pad travel.
PARKING BRAKE ADJUSTMENTS
(Figs. 21, 22, 23, and 24)
Rear Wheel Parking Brake
Adjustment of the cable connected "re a r wheel type”
parking brake used on 1/2, 3/4, and 1 ton models must be
performed each time the service brakes are adjusted and
can be accomplished only when service brakes are in
adjustment.
The propeller shaft parking brake used on all other
trucks operates independent of the service brakes and
necessary adjustment of either the "band type” or “ shoe
type” is covered in this section.
CA-KA-PA-10, CA-KA-20, CA-30 Models
1. Jack up both rear wheels.
2. Apply parking brake 4 notches from fully released
position.
3. Loosen equalizer check nut and tighten the adjusting
nut until a moderate drag is felt when the rear
wheels are rotated.
4. Tighten the check nut securely.
5. Fully release parking brake and rotate the rear
wheels. No drag should be present.
G10 and G20 Series (Fig. 23)
1. Pull parking brake lever two notches from fully
released position.
2. Loosen the equalizer clevis forward check nut, and
tighten the rear nut until a light to moderate drag is
felt when rear wheels are rotated.
3. Tighten check nuts securely.
4. Fully release parking brake and rotate rear wheels;
no drag should be present.
P I0-20-30 Models (Fig. 24)
Adjustment
1. Jack up both rear wheels.
2. Apply parking brake, two notches from fully released
position.
3. Loosen the equalizer forward check nut, and tighten
or loosen the rear nut until a light to moderate drag
is felt when rear wheels are rotated.
4. Tighten check nuts securely.
5. Fully release parking brake and rotate rear wheels;
no drag should be present.
Propeller Shaft Parking Brake—(Band Type)
(Fig. 30)
1. Set hand brake lever in the “ fully released” position.
2. Loosen locknut on brake pull rod and disconnect pull
