ELECTRICAL-BODY  AND  CHASSIS  12-9

STOPLIGHT  SWITCH  REPLACEMENT 

Chevy  Van  (Fig.  13)

1.  Raise  and  support  vehicle.

2.  Remove  radiator  air  deflector  and  extension  as­

sembly.

3.  Disconnect  the  two  electrical  connectors  from  the 

switch  which  is  located under  the  toe  pan  adjacent to 

the  brake  lever  arm.

4.  Remove  two  screws  attaching  the  switch to the under­

side  of the  toe  pan  and  remove  switch.

5.  Install  new  switch  with  the  switch  lever  arm  between 

the  brake  lever  arm  and  the  toe pan  and  connect  the 
two  connectors.

.  Switch  adjustment  should  be  such  that  1/2"  to  1/4" 

pedal  will  make  electrical  contact.  If  necessary, 

adjust  the  switch  by  bending the  switch bracket until 

proper  operation  is  obtained.  Lower  vehicle.

Tilt  Cab  Models  (Fig.  14)

1.  Disconnect  the  two  electrical  connectors  from  the 

switch  which  is  located under the  toe  pan  adjacent to 

the  brake  lever  arm.

2.  Remove  two  screws  attaching  the  switch  to  the  toe 

pan  and  remove  switch.

3.  Install  new  switch  and  connect  the  two  connectors.

Conventional  Cab  Models  (Fig.  15)

1.  Disconnect wiring  harness  connector  from  switch  and 

remove  switch  retaining  nut.

2.  Depress  brake  pedal  and  place  new  switch  into 

bracket  and install  retaining  nut.

3.  Check  switch  for  proper  operation.  Electrical  con-

DIMMER  SWITCH  REPLACEMENT

1.  Fold  back  upper  left  corner  of the  floor  mat  and  re­

move  two  screws  retaining  switch  to  the  toe  pan.

2.

  Disconnect  wiring  connector  from  switch terminals.

3.

  Connect  wiring  to  replacement  switch  and  check 

operation.

4.  Position  switch  to  toe  pan  and  install  retaining 

screws.

5.

  Replace  floor  mat.

NEUTRAL  SAFETY  SWITCH  REPLACEMENT 

Column  Shift—Switch  Located  on  Mast  Jacket

1.  Disconnect  wiring  harness  connectors  at  switch  ter­

minals.

2.

  Remove  switch  retaining  screws  and  switch  from 

mast jacket.

3.

  To  install,  position  shift  lever  in  drive  and  locate 

lever tang  against transmission  selector plate.

4.  Align  slot  in  contact  support  with  hole  in  switch  and 

insert  pin

dia.)  to  hold  support  in  place. 

Switch  is now  in  drive  position.

5.

  Place  contact  support  drive  slot  over  shifter  tube 

drive  tang  and  tighten  screws.  Remove  clamp  and 
pin.

6

.  Connect  wiring  harness  to  terminals  and  check  op­

eration  of  switch.

Column  Shift—Switch  Located  on  Transmission 

(Fig.  16)

1.  Raise  and  support vehicle.

2.

  Disconnect  switch  wiring from  engine  wiring harness 

and  remove bolt  attaching  the  switch wiring  retaining 
clip  to the  transmission.

3.

  Remove  the  bolt  attaching  the  switch  to  the  trans­

mission  and  disengage  switch  from  shift  lever  rod.
