1.  Install  the  exhaust  stem  grommet  in  its  groove  in 

the  stem bore  of the piston.

2.  Drop  the  inlet  and  exhaust  valve  into  place  at the 

bottom  of the piston.

3.  Install  the  inlet  valve  spring  with  its  narrow  end 

against  the  valve.  Press  the  spring  down  until  the 

large  coiled  end  snaps  into  the  groove  inside  the 
piston.

4.  Position  the  exhaust  stem  spring  over  the  exhaust 

stem.  Then  carefully  press  the  stem  into  the  stem 

bore  of the piston.

5.  Install  the piston  in the body.
6.  Install  one  lower  spring  seat,  spring guide,  the  other 

lower  spring  seat,  pressure  setting  spring,  and  the 
hex-shaped  upper  spring  seat on the  adjusting  screw, 
in that  order.

7.  Screw  the upper  spring  seat down until the  dimension 

from  the  top  of  the  seat  to  the  bottom  of the  stem 

head  is  approximately  1-7/8".  Secure  with lock nut.

NOTE: 

Before  placing  the  adjusting  screw  and 

stem  assembly  in  the  governor  body,  check  to 

be  sure  the  exhaust  stem  and  its  spring  are  in 
place  in the piston.

Installation

1.  Clean  or  replace  both  air  lines  connected  to  the 

governor.

2.  Mount  governor  in  place  with  exhaust  port  pointing 

toward the  ground.

3.  Connect  air  lines to governor.

4.  Test  governor for proper  operation.

FOOT  OPERATED  AIR  BRAKE  CONTROL  VALVE

Removal

1.  Exhaust  all  air from  system.

2.  Remove  all  lines  running to brake valve.

3.  Remove  pedal push  rod  clevis pin.

4.  Remove  mounting bolts  and  remove  valve.

Disassem bly  (Fig.  98)

1.  Remove  boot  (18)  from plunger  (17)  and bracket  (16).

2.  Remove plunger  (17).
3.  Remove  mounting  bracket  (16)  from valve  body  (10), 

by  removing  3  bolts  (19)  and lock washers  (20).

4.  Remove  snap  ring  (15).

5„  Remove  piston  assembly  (14)  and  spring  (11)  from 

valve  body  (10).

6.  Remove  two  seals  (12  and  13)  from piston  assembly 

(14).

7.  Invert valve body.

8.  Remove  screw  (1),  retainer  (2),  and  diaphragm  (3) 

from  exhaust valve body  (5).

9.  Remove  ring  (4)  from  exhaust valve body  (5).

10.  Remove  exhaust  valve  body  (5),  seal  (6),  spring  (7), 

and valve  (9)  from valve body  (10).

11.  Remove  seal  (8)  from valve  (9).

Cleaning  and  Inspection

1.  Check  mounting  flange  for  cracks  or  breakage.
2.  Discard  all  rubber parts.
3.  Inspect  the body for  scoring and  excessive wear.  Be 

sure  all  passages  are  clear.

4.  Wash  all  metal  parts  in  non-toxic  cleaning  solvent 

and dry  with air.

5.  Replace  all  parts found damaged or  worn.

Assem bly  (Fig.  98)

NOTE: 

Lubricate  all  seals  with  Lubriplate 

grease.

1.  Place  seal  (8)  on  valve  (9)  and  place  in valve  body 

(

10

).

2.  Install  spring  (7)  on valve  (9).
3.  Place  seal  (6)  on  exhaust  valve  body  (5)  and install 

assembly  in  valve  body  (10)  piloting  on  coil  spring 

(7).

4.  Secure  exhaust  valve  body  (5)  into  valve  body  (10) 

with  ring  (4).

5.  Secure  diaphragm  (3)  and  retainer  (2)  to  exhaust 

valve body  (5)  with  screw  (1).

6.  Invert valve body  (10).

7.  Install  seal  (13)  on  piston  (14).  Install  seal  (12)  on 

piston  (14).

8.  Install  coil  spring  (11)  into valve body  (10).

9.  Install  piston  assembly  (14)  into  valve body  (10)  and 

secure  with  snap  ring  (15).

10.  Secure  mounting  bracket  (16)  to  valve body  (10)  with 

bolts  (19)  and lock washers  (20).

11.  Install plunger  (17)  into  mounting bracket  (16).
12.  Install boot  (18)  on plunger  (17).
