Cause
A) Cause of the retransfer residue ghost
The cause will be explained by referring to the sample image [A]. Yellow toner transferred to ITB [2] was
retransferred when Magenta was transferred, and passed through the upstream brush [4] or the
downstream brush [5], thereby staining the primary charging roller [6]. This caused a failure in appropriately
controlling potential on the surface of the drums, leading to the occurrence of the ghost image.
B) Cause of the transfer residue ghost
The cause will be explained by referring to the sample image [B]. The remained toner [3] that was not
transferred from the Black drum [1] to ITB [2] is collected by the upstream brush [4] or the downstream brush
[5]. However, toner that could not be collected by the upstream and downstream brushes stained the
primary charging roller [6]. This caused a failure in appropriately controlling potential on the surface of the
drums, leading to the occurrence of the ghost image.
