When you pull down the Other menu and select Sound Options, the dialog box
shown in Figure 6-36 appears.
Figure 6-36. The Sound Options dialog box.
If you install a SoundBlaster compatible sound card in the ServLINK, you can use
this option to customize the sound alerts the ServLINK gives you when (a) it sends
you a message or (b) when a remote user is accessing it. (If you enable the custom
sounds without such a sound card installed, the ServLINK will be totally silent.)
This can be especially useful in crowded server-room environments, where it can
be hard to tell which piece of equipment is making any given beeping noise.
Available sounds include “Speaker Beep” (the default), “Ding,” “Chime,” “Chord,”
“Gun Shot,” “Alert Voice,” “I’m Back,” and “Hello.” (These are .WAV files stored
on the ServLINK’s hard drive. While there’s no software-based way to add sounds
to this list, you can do a “Find File” on DING.WAV to locate the existing sound
files, back them up to some other folder, and give their filenames to other sounds
more appropriate for your application.)
To test what any of these selections sound like, pull the menu to that sound and
click “Test” to hear it. Volume control must be handled through the operating
system.
