APPENDIX F: Sharing a Fax Modem
F.3 Installing MPSWIN
1. Insert the MPS-VIII software into the appropriate drive on the PC.
2. Activate that drive, type INSTWIN , and press Enter.
3. Select the disk drive where MPSWIN has been loaded.
4. Select the PC port connected to the Multiport Spooler VIII and set its
communication parameters. Make sure that the “Handshake” parameter
is set to “Both”; this setting supports the most fax modems.
5. Answer “No” to the question “Will you install only the User’s Command
Transmission Program?”
6. Define a command that permits the creation of a bidirectional link with
the fax modem on the selected port (for example, the COM8 port). To
do so:
• Select “Define String”; select Serial Port (for example, COM8),
assuming that the fax-modem port is called MODEM.
• Use the following syntax for String Before:
(BR)@@/ZMODEM@
• Use the following syntax for String After:
(BR)
(This cuts the bidirectional link, freeing up the fax modem.)
• Repeat the above for each PC that will have access to the fax modem.
• Exit and return to DOS.
• Type WIN at the DOS Prompt.
• Open the Windows Program Manager.
• Open the Control Panel.
• Open Printer; this will enable you to connect the printer “WINFAX”
to the selected serial port (for example, COM8).
