/S
define a header String
Use this command to define a header up to 60 characters long to be printed
before each job from your port. This is especially useful when many users are
sending jobs to the same printer. The header stays in memory even if you
deactivate it with the
/H0
command or if you turn the Multiport Spooler VIII
off. Be aware that you must activate the header (see the entry for the
/H
command) before any header you define will be printed. Also, for the header
to be followed by a form feed when it is printed, you must activate form feeds
(see the entry for the
/F
command).
Format
@@/S
@
The string of characters (60 characters maximum) you want printed
before each job from your port.
Example
@@/SJack Smith’s Office 1005@
If the header is activated, the header “Jack Smith’s Office 1005” will print
before each job from your port.
NOTES
The header can contain any ASCII character except “/” and “@”, and you
can represent even these characters by enclosing their two-digit
hexadecimal codes in parentheses—
(2F)
and
(40)
respectively. (Each
character represented by its hex code in parentheses counts as four
characters toward the length of the header.)
The default header is
PORT#n
, where
n
is the number of the current
port. This is followed by a form feed only if form feeds are active (see the
entry for
/F
).
You can use the header to replace the token (see
Section D.2.3
) if you
want to send a command through one Multiport Spooler VIII to another.
For example, you can send the command
@@/S(40)(40)(2F)P5(40)@
to
define a header that is in fact the command
@@/P5@
. The first MPS-VIII
that receives this header from a PC does not interpret it, but instead
transmits it on to the second MPS-VIII. The second MPS-VIII interprets
the command.
