MULTIPORT SPOOLER VIII (4-, 8-, and 12-Port Models)
This chapter explains how to send direct control commands to the Multiport
Spooler VIII without using the UCTP menu.
You can use direct control commands to do such things as specify the
number of copies sent to a printer, reserve a peripheral for your use, or
activate a header for print jobs. Note that you do not need to use control
commands to simply send a standard job to your current printer (or other
peripheral). Only if you wish to perform an action different from what your
defaults specify do you need to use control commands. For instance, if:
• you did not install MPSDOS, MPSWIN, or the UCTP,
• you have several printers connected to the MPS-VIII, and
• you need to be able to switch between these printers depending on
particular job requirements,
you need these control commands to give the Multiport Spooler VIII the
appropriate directions.
You can use either of the following direct-command transmission methods
to send control commands to the Multiport Spooler VIII:
• Send the command from the DOS prompt, or
• Embed the command in the first 256 characters of a job transmitted to
the Multiport Spooler VIII.
However you choose to send control commands—whether with one of these
methods or with the UCTP—the command stream sent to the Multiport
Spooler VIII is identical.
