APPENDIX D: Sending Direct Commands to the MPS-VIII
D.3 Command Descriptions
This section takes a detailed look at each command.
For the Multiport Spooler VIII to detect and interpret a command, the
beginning of the command (the command-start character followed by “/”)
must be within the first 256 characters of a new task. Each transmission after
a timeout is considered a new task. This applies to all transmission methods
used.
If you use the UCTP to send commands, you do not need to wait for a
timeout, because the UCTP sends a Break signal before each command. The
Break signal forces the timeout to expire, thus allowing the next command
to be sent immediately.
Some third-party terminal-emulation packages also offer a break-signal
generation feature. Note that the Break key on a normal PC/XT or AT
keyboard does not generate a Break signal.
