Chapter 8 Implantation: Preparations in the operating room

INSTRUCTION

Push the free end of the de-airing tube onto the trocar as far as it will go.
Secure the de-airing tube to the trocar with a suture tie.

Fill the syringe with sterile injectable saline.

Connect the syringe to the stopcock end of the de-airing tube.

Slowly fill the pump with sterile injectable saline. Rock the pump back and
forth to move any bubbles to the outflow stub.

Close the stopcock on the de-airing tube.

Tap the blood pump body gently in order to free all remaining bubbles.
Remove all air from the pump through the outflow connector.

Use the seal caps to close the titanium cannula connectors.

Place the pump ready for connection with the connectors pointing up.
