Flash Memory Guidelines
Us e thes e bas ic guidelines for s toring files in the printer’s flas h m em ory.

The printer has volatile RAM (pac kets deleted when the printer is turned off) and flas h
m em ory (pac kets s aved when the printer is turned off).

Flas h m em ory m us t be form atted before any pac kets c an be s aved. See “Form atting Flas h
Mem ory” for m ore inform ation.

Form ats , graphic s , and c hec k digits c an be s aved in flas h (a c opy is autom atic ally plac ed in
RAM). Any of thes e pac kets s aved in flas h c annot exc eed the m em ory available in RAM.

Pac kets with the s am e num ber s hould not be added to flas h m em ory. If two pac kets with the
s am e num ber are s tored in flas h, only the las t pac ket s ent c an be us ed. For exam ple, if you
s end the following pac kets to flas h m em ory, only the Textiles form at c an be us ed.

There is not a 1-to-1 ratio between the RAM m em ory (form ats , graphic s , and c hec k digits ) in
the printer and the m em ory in the PC. For exam ple, a file that is 5K in W indows m ay require
15-20K to s tore in the printer.

W hen us ing graphic s , us e the lowes t-res olution graphic pos s ible. If the printer us es a 203 dpi
printhead, the graphic s res olution s hould be 150 to 200 dpi. 96 dpi m ay work. Create the
s m alles t file s iz e pos s ible.

Us e tem porary s torage for graphic s that are only us ed onc e or twic e. However, for a logo that
is us ed on m ultiple form ats , s ave the graphic in flas h. Create the s m alles t file s iz e pos s ible.

Eac h line in a pac ket requires the s am e am ount of m em ory. The s m aller the form at, the les s
m em ory required to s ave it.
C l e a r i n g P a c k et s f r o m M e m o ry
Rem ove pac kets from the printer to inc reas e m em ory s torage c apac ity or if the form ats /fonts are
no longer needed. In s om e c as es , turning the printer off m ay c lear the pac kets from m em ory. If
not, s end a form at c lear pac ket.

2. pac k et# Identific ation num ber of the pac ket to c lear ( 1 to 999 ) or font
num ber ( 0 to 9999 ). 0 is for all fonts .
3. ac tion Ac tion. Enter C to c lear the pac ket.

R Volatile RAM
