Increasing Throughput
Reduc ing the im aging tim e inc reas es throughput. Inc reas e the baud rate to inc reas e the
trans m is s ion tim e and inc reas e throughput. Make s ure the c om m unic ation s ettings at the printer
m atc h thos e at the hos t. Us ing a baud rate of 19200 is alm os t twic e as fas t as 9600 baud. Us ing
a baud rate of 38400 is alm os t twic e as fas t as 19200 baud.

The following tips and hints are helpful to keep in m ind when des igning MPCLII form ats .
With Packets

Leave param eters blank that do not c hange when s ending online c onfiguration pac kets . For
exam ple,

param eters .
Group fields with s im ilar param eters . For exam ple

The firs t text field s ets all the param eters for that field. The s ec ond text field’s num ber of
c harac ters and c olum n loc ation c hanges from what was defined in the firs t field. In the third text
field, only the c olum n loc ation is c hanged. This m ethod c an be us ed on bar c ode and c ons tant
text fields as well.

After m odifying any fields or param eters with the optional entry m ethod, res end the form at, batc h,
or c onfiguration pac ket to the printer.
With Bar Codes

Be c areful when rotating or plac ing a UPC/EAN bar c ode with hum an readable c harac ters ,
bec aus e the bottom referenc e point is at the bottom of the bars , not at the bottom of the
hum an readable c harac ters .
With Fields

Data that rem ains the s am e for eac h label s hould be in a c ons tant text field. Data that varies
for eac h label s hould be in a text field.

Chec k for trailing s pac es in text or c ons tant text fields if a “field off tag” error appears . An
eas y way to s ee trailing s pac es is to print the field in the revers e font.
W hen fields are m agnified, they m ay go off the label or c over another field. Magnifying a field
inc reas es the dis tanc e between the printed c harac ter and the edge of the c ell.
