ACCESS CONTROL INSTALLATION (PROXIMITY READER)
With software version 2.0 of January 2003 it is made possible to
implement an access control system in the AlphaVision NG system. The
required hardware to do this exists of one or several AlphaVision NG
Proximity Readers, in combination with the corresponding software
version in the AlphaVision NG control panel (version 2.0). For enrolling
new tags to use with the Proximity Reader, an additional LCD/PROX
keypad is also required. En existing installation with an AlphaVision NG
control panel can easily be upgraded with new software (EPROM).
Standard usage of the NG Proximity Reader
Although the NG Proximity Reader can be used for many applications, the
basic philosophy behind the NG Proximity Reader is simple: Install a
proximity reader on the outside of the secured premises, and an
LCD/PROX keypad inside. When someone wants to enter the premises,
he or she presents his tag to the reader, enters through the entry door, and
then uses the same tag to deactivate the security system.
Installing the NG Proximity Reader
The NG Proximity Reader can be mounted both indoors and outdoors, because the electronics in the reader
are completely sealed. Because of this, the NG Proximity Readers are weatherproof. The NG Proximity
Readers are supplied with a piece of cable, with the following color code is used:
color: meaning:
Red +12V
White (with red)
0V
Yellow
A-line RS-485 bus communication
White (with yellow) B-line RS-485 bus communication
Blue
Open Collector output
White (with blue)
Not used
Attention:
The wiring cable consists of 6 wires. Each color (red, blue, yellow) has an accompanying white
wire. When connecting the wires, please make sure not to mistake the white 0V wire for the white B-Line
wire.
Attention:
The NG Prox Reader cannot be mounted on a metal surface. If this is can not be prevented, then
the RDR-BACK backplane should be mounted between the metal surface and the NG Prox Reader by which
a little distance of about 10mm is created between the metal surface and the NG Prox Reader. If the distance
between the NG Prox Reader and the metal background is to small, the metal background absorbs the energy
of the reader and the reading distance of a TAG is dramatically reduced.
Attention:
The NG Prox Reader obtains its power from the RS-485 bus. Make sure the voltage drop on the
cable is not too much. Please follow the instuctions from chapter “Current drain and battery calculation”
(page.
Fout! Bladwijzer niet gedefinieerd.).
Attention:
When several NG Prox Readers are used, please make sure the distance between two readers is at
least 1 meter. When the readers are placed in a close proximity to each other, the readers will influence each
other and the read distance will dramatically decrease. When for instance two readers on each side of a door
are used, these can not be placed opposite of each other. When it necassary to place two readers opposite of
