For clarification and for a better understanding of the AlphaVision NG control panel we clarify the memory
control of the AlphaVision NG control panel.
When the AlphaVision NG control panel is completely dead, so when both the 230V and the back up battery
are disconnected, the RAM work memory is empty, since a RAM chip cannot store data without power. An
E
2
PROM can store data when there is no power (even longer than 100 years), but cannot function as work
memory. That is why when the AlphaVision NG control panel is powered up, the data from the permanent
memory, so from the E
2
PROM, is copied to the work memory (the RAM chip). With the data in the work
memory, the control panel can function as programmed. In the drawing below, the copying from the
permanent to the work memory is indicated with a “1”.
When during the control panel’s power up a valid installer code is entered with the PC, the control panel
recognizes this and presumes that the programming is to be changed. Therefore a part of the RAM memory
is reserved as “scratch memory”. In this, the current programming is copied, so it can be safely changed.
When option 1 in the main menu is selected “program control panel”, the programming as it is copied into
the scratch memory, is shown. Only when the changes made in this scratch memory are copied into the
E
2
PROM, by selecting option 0 “end, save changes”, the changed programming is permanent.
1. This means that when the power is disconnected and reconnected from the control panel, before the
changed programming is saved, the control panel will power up with the original programming, since it was
not copied to the E
2
PROM yet.
2. When all desired changes are made, make sure option 0 “
end, save changes
” is selected. Only then the
programming from the scratch memory is saved to the permanent memory. After this, the control panel will
reboot, so that the changes made will become active.
3. For the options “
save programming to the PC
” and “
send programming from PC to control panel
” it
is important to understand the description of the control panel’s memory. When the option “save
programming to the PC” is selected, the programming as it is in the scratch memory is saved to the PC, and
not the programming as it is in the permanent memory.
Attention:
When option “program control panel” is selected and changes are made, and then option “save
programming to the PC” is selected, the changes are saved to the PC, but are not yet saved to the permanent
memory of the control panel! When changes are made, you should always end the programming with option
0 “end, save changes”! Only when the changes are wrong and you do not want to save them, you should
select the option “end, do not save changes”.
Option Save programming to the PC
When in the main menu option “save programming to the PC” is selected, the following text will appear on
your screen:
