resistance of the connection.

d. With the probe at 25°C room temperature, the resistance

between the probe leads should be 2000 ohms ±5% and should

be quite sensitive to the warmth of your hand or breath.

With the tip of the probe immersed in a concentrated NaCl

solution (do not wet the probe leads or connector in salt water),

the resistance between either probe lead and the solution should

be greater than 20 megohms. Sample Probe damage is indicated

by any deviation from the resistance parameters given above.

If sample probe replacement is indicated, please proceed to item

4. If sample probe replacement is not indicated, reverse the pre-

vious steps to restore the instrument to operating condition.

4. Sample Probe Replacement

a. The 4C3 should be disconnected from the power source, the

back cover removed and the sample probe disconnected as

instructed in steps 3.a through 3.c above.

b. Push/pull out the pivot plate pin and remove the pivot plate (see

figure 8).

c. Pull the tube gripper (see figure 8) down and off of the mandrel

(leave the large coil spring in place).

d. Loosen the probe setscrew (see figure 8). Gently push and pull

the probe up through the mandrel and out of the instrument.

e. Fit a new sample probe by pushing the probe down into the

small, round, center hole in the mandrel (not the large D-shaped

hole).

f. Temporarily tighten the probe setscrew slightly (just enough to

keep the probe from falling through the mandrel).

g. Replace the tube gripper, pivot plate and pivot-plate pin.
h. Plug the probe connector into the mating connector on the head

chassis. Use care not to bend or touch the connecting pins. Soil
