12. Gently wipe the probe and stir/freeze wire with a pure water
dampened tissue to prevent contaminating subsequent tests. Be
careful not to bend the probe or stir/freeze wire.
During standby, the 4C3 periodically checks the heat transfer fluid
level. When the 4C3 does not have enough heat transfer fluid,
“Fluid Required” is briefly displayed and heat transfer fluid must
be added as described in Chapter 1.
When not in use, the 4C3 may either be left on continuously for
maximum starting throughput speed, or it may be shut off. No
refrigeration cool-down time is required. When turned on, samples
may be loaded and tested as soon as “Cryoscope Ready” is
displayed (the first few samples will exhibit a slightly-longer test
time until the reserve heat transfer fluid cooler reaches its operating
temperature).
E. Testing batch-numbered or barcode scanned
samples
If either batch numbering or barcode scanning has been enabled via
the setup menu, it is highly recommended that you minimize sample
exposure by pressing START before loading samples.
If either batch numbering or barcode scanning has been enabled,
when the START button is pressed the instrument operator will be
prompted for a batch identification number of up to 4 digits for the
batch.
At the “Batch Number: ” prompt, enter the batch identification
number one digit at a time from the left via the numeric keypad and
press ENTER to store the setting. “# of Samples: ” will be dis-
played.
At the “# of Samples: ” prompt, enter the actual number of
samples in the batch (up to 60 if barcode reading is activated, up to
99 otherwise) one digit at a time from the left via the numeric key-
