, using the techniques recommended in

Chapter 2, pipet five samples each of -408 m°C (-422 m°H) and

-600 m°C (-621 m°H) Advanced Cryoscope Standard, place them,

in that order, in a cassette and place the cassette in the left (input)

deck (see figure 5). When ready, press

START

to continue.

Using an automatic calibration cassette:

By means of the techniques recommended in Chapter 2, pipet five

samples each of -408 m°C (-422 m°H) and -600 m°C (-621 m°H)

standard, place them, in that order, in an Advanced automatic cali-

bration cassette and place the cassette in the left deck.

If testing is not currently in process, press

“

START

”

. When the 4C3

identifies the Automatic Calibration Cassette, it will verify that

position 1 appears to contain the low standard, test the 10 samples

in the cassette, automatically recalibrate, then resume regular testing

on the samples in any following cassettes.

NOTES

a. If the supervisor/operator keyswitch is not in the super-

visor (vertical) position when the CALIB button is

pressed or an automatic calibration cassette is introduced,

“Supervisor Key Needed”

will be displayed and the

instrument will await operator response. Switch to super-

visor to continue or press STOP to cancel re-calibration.

b. If the sample probe is replaced, the sample probe bin

must be determined and set before the 4C3 can

be calibrated (see Chapter 5). After the sample probe

bin

number is set, the CALIB calibration procedure

(choice 1) must be used; choice 2 will generally produce

“Calibrator out of Range”

error message.

c. The 4C3 can detect certain gross calibration errors such

as reversal of the standards, but it remains the responsi-

bility of the operator to be sure to introduce accurate stan-

dards of the specified freezing point values.

d. The ambient air may contaminate or evaporate samples in

the cassette if they are allowed to remain for any appre-
