Spark Plug Caps
Replace the spark plug caps by pulling the old caps off
the coil's high tension wire. Reverse to install. Make sure
the cap is pushed all the way on the high tension wire.
VOLTAGE REGULATOR
The snowmobile is equipped with two voltage regula-
tors, one of which is also a rectifier. The rectifierlvoltage
regulator
(A, Figure 13) contacts the current to the bat-
tery, and to the lights and instruments (if so equipped).
The voltage regulator (B, Figure 13) directs current to the
grip warmer circuit.

Disconnect the rectifier1 voltage regulator or voltage
regulator wire connector.

Remove the bolts securing the
regula-
tor or voltage regulator.

Installation is the reverse of removal steps. Before con-
necting the electrical wire connectors at the unit, make
sure the connectors are clean of all dirt and moisture resi-

ELECTRIC STARTING SYSTEM
An electric starter motor is used on some models. The
motor is mounted horizontally on the front of the engine.
When battery current is supplied to the starter motor, its
pinion gear is thrust forward to engage the teeth on the en-
gine flywheel. When the engine starts, the pinion gear dis-
engages from the flywheel.
The electric starting system requires a fully charged
battery to provide the large amount of current required to
operate the starter motor.
The starting circuit consists of the battery, main switch,
starter relay, the starter motor and connecting wiring.
Starting system troubleshooting is described in Chapter
Two.
