bearing race into the bearing rollers are lubrication
holes.
CA
Make sure the roller bearing is installed
with the lubrication holes and locating
dowel pinhole positioned as shown in
w e 71. Incorrect bearing installation
causes bearing failure because of the lack of
lubrication.
d. Slide the bearing onto the main journal with the
dowel pinhole (A, Figure 71)
and
lubrication holes
positioned as shown.
6. Install the
end ball type bearings as follows:
a. Lay the bearings, spacer and oil seal on a clean,
lint-free surface in the order of assembly.
Make sure the locating pins in the outer races are
properly positioned before installing the bearings.
c. The locating pin in the outer race of the inner bear-
ing
should be on the bearing end nearer the crank-
shaft end.
The sealed side of the outer bearing must be toward
the end of the crankshaft.
e. Make sure to install the spacer and oil seal between
the bearings.
f. Refer to Ball Bearing
in
Chapter One.

g. Heat and install the bearings. Make sure the bear-
ings are fully seated.
Crankshaft Installation
1. Install the coolant pump and oil injection
pump
driveshaft as described in this chapter.
2. Fill the outer crankshaft seal lip cavity with a
lithium base grease.
3.
Install the oil seal (A,
Figure 68) over the flywheel end
of the crankshaft.
4.
Position the upper crankcase so
it rests on the crank-
case studs.
CA
Do
not install a pin in the lubrication
pas-
sages.
If
removed, make sure all the bearing locating pins
(Figure 72) are installed.
6. Install the bearing locating ring in the groove of the
outer bearing as shown in
Figure 73.
