ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
163
To test the temperature control (variable resistor), con-
nect an ohmmeter to the control's connector. The ohmme-
ter should indicate 400-600 ohms throughout the control's
temperature range.
LIGHTING SYSTEM
The lighting system consists of the headlight,
combination and instrument panel illumi-
nation lights. In the event of trouble with any light, the
first thing to check is the affected bulb. If the bulb is good,
check all wiring and connections
with a test light or ohm-
meter.
Headlight Replacement
I f
the headlight has just burned out or been
turned off it will be hot.
Do not touch the
until it cools.
Quartz-halogen bulbs are used on all mod-
els.
Do not touch the bulb glass. Traces of
oil on the bulb
reduces the life
o f
the bulb. Clean any oil from the bulb with a
cloth moistened
in
alcohol or lacquer thin-
ner.
1. Open the shroud.
2. Disconnect the electrical connector at the headlight
bulb (A, Figure 42).
3. Remove the rubber cover
Figure 42).
4. Detach the
holder and remove the headlight bulb.
5. Reverse the removal steps to install the headlight bulb.
Make sure the bulb holder is securely in position.
Headlight Adjustment
1.
Park the snowmobile on a level surface 25
(8 m)
from a vertical wall (Figure 43).
NOTE
A
rider should be seated on the snowmobile
when performing the following.
2. Measure the distance from the floor to the center of the
headlight lens (Figure 43). Make a mark on the wall the
same distance from the floor (A. Figure 43). For instance,
if the center of the headlight lens is 2 ft.
the floor,
place the mark on the wall 2
ft.
from the floor.
3.
Start the engine, turn on the headlight and set the beam
selector to HIGH. Do not adjust the headlight beam with
the selector set at LOW.
4.
The most intense area of the beam on the wall should
be 2.5 in. (64 mm) below the mark on the wall
Figure
43) and in a straight line from the headlight to the wall.
5. To move the
turn the headlight housing adjust-
ing screws (Figure 44) on
side.
Taillight Bulb Replacement
1. Remove the taillight lens (Figure 45) mounting screws
and remove the lens.
2. Turn the bulb (Figure 46) counterclockwise and re-
move it.
3. Clean the lens in a mild detergent and check for cracks.
4.
Installation
is the reverse of the preceding steps.
