IGNITION SYSTEM
TROUBLESHOOTING
Check the main fuse and ignition fuse.
Refer to “FUSE INSPECTION” in CHAPTER 2.
Check the battery.
Refer to “BATTERY INSPECTION” in CHAPTER 2.
Check the spark plug gap.
Refer to “SPARK PLUGS” in CHAPTER 2.
Check the ignition spark gap.
Check the ignition coil resistance.
Check the crankshaft position sensor.
Check the engine stop switch, throttle switch and
main switch.
Check the throttle position sensor.
Refer to “THROTTLE BODY” in CHAPTER 7.
Check the ignition system wiring.
Refer to “CIRCUIT DIAGRAM”.
Correct the connection and/or replace the ECU.
NO SPARK OR WEAK SPARK.
OK
FAULTY Replace the main fuse and/or ignition fuse.
OK
OUT OF SPECIFICATION Replace or charge the battery.
Refer to “BATTERY INSPECTION” in CHAPTER
2.
OK
OUT OF SPECIFICATION Repair or replace the spark plug(s).
Refer to “SPARK PLUGS” in CHAPTER 2.
OK
OUT OF SPECIFICATION
Replace the ignition coil(s).
OK
OUT OF SPECIFICATION Replace the ignition coil(s).
OK
OUT OF SPECIFICATION Replace the crankshaft position sensor.
OK
FAULTY Replace the right handlebar switch and/or main
switch.

FAULTY
Replace the throttle position sensor.
Refer to “THROTTLE BODY” in CHAPTER 7.

FAULTY Properly connect or repair the ignition system wir-
ing.
