VP-X Installation and Operating Manual
Rev. D (August 5, 2020)
5.9f Alternator – Rotax, Jabiru, or UL Power engines
Contact Vertical Power support for the latest on PPS integration with these
three engines.
Rotax, Jabiru, and UL Power engines have a built-in alternator/generator with
their own regulator that typically mounts on the engine side of the firewall.
They do not provide a standard method to turn on and off the alternator from
the cockpit.
If you want to leave the alternator in its standard configuration where it
is always on, then follow the manufacturer’s instructions (shown below
describing VP-X integration). When configuring the VP-X, disable the primary
alternator circuit. (Note: SkyView users should leave it enabled until a
future SkyView Software release supports the disabled alternator function,
otherwise an alternator alarm will be on during the flight).
If you want to switch the alternator on and off, then insert the optional relay
as shown in the diagrams below and control using the VP-X alternator control
circuit, J12-11.
See the diagrams below for wiring overview.

The wiring diagrams shown above are for reference only to show how the
VP-X fits into the overall bus architecture.
You should consult the engine
manufacturer’s manual for the latest details and notes.
Use 6 AWG or 8 AWG wire from the battery contactor to the VP-X.
