By creating groups of queues that share a common rate shaper, an extra level of prioritisation
of the traffic is introduced. The grid still shows the correct order with the first queue in the
group having the highest priority.
Likewise, to ungroup queues, select the queue(s) and press the ungroup button.
Figure
shows an advanced priority queue where a number of groups have been configured.
Figure 8.129
Advanced output
priority queue - Group configuration.
If the data on one shaper group is exceeding the configured max rate, that queue/group looses
data. If the output bitrate is too low, the lowest priority queue should suffer first. Queues with
flow control will simply transmit slower until stopping completely. Category C queues will
start dropping packets and an overflow alarm will be set with the sub-id indicating the queue
number and the details field listing the queue name.
8.7.2.9.2 Default Priority Queues
This page is used to set default queue priorities per input port. The default priority is used
when no priority is defined, or when explicitly using the ports default priority in Service or PID
configurations. When using the default port priority all PIDs forwarded from a specific input
will be assigned to the same configured priority queue.
A typical scenario when no priority is defined occurs when using
Transmit services by default
option as described in
or
Transmit unsignalled PIDs by default
described in
Default Priority Queues is also a simple way of assigning PID priorities from various inputs
when using the
Transmit services by default
option together with the
Auto Remap PIDs
feature
described in
. This way PIDs from separate inputs may be easily divided into
separate priority queues.
