BREAK-IN
The first 800 km (500 miles) is the
most import
a nt in the life of your
motorcycle. Proper oper a tion dur-
ing this bre a k-in period will help
a ssure m a ximum life a nd perfor-
m a nce from your new motorcycle.
The following guidelines expl a in
proper bre a k-in procedures.
Maximum En g ine S peed
Recommendation
The t a ble below shows the m a xi-
mum engine speed recommend a -
tion during the bre a k-in period.
Vary the En g ine S peed
V a ry the engine speed during the
bre a k-in period. This a llows the
p a rts to “lo a d” ( a iding the m a ting
process) a nd then “unlo a d”
( a llowing the p a rts to cool).
Although it is essenti a l to pl a ce
some stress on the engine com-
ponents during bre
a k-in, you must
be c a reful not to lo a d the engine
too much.

New tires need proper bre a k-in to
a ssure m a ximum perform a nce,
just a s the engine does. We a r- in
the tre a d surf a ce by gr a du a lly
incre a sing your cornering le a n
a ngles over the first 160 km (100
miles) before a ttempting m a xi-
mum perform a nce. Avoid h a rd
a cceler a tion, h a rd cornering, a nd
h a rd br a king for the first 160 km
(100 miles).
