CATALYTIC CONVERTER
The purpose of the c a t a lytic con-
verter is to minimize the a mount
of h a rmful pollut a nts in your
motorcycle’s exh a ust. Use of
le a ded fuel in motorcycles
equipped with c a t a lytic converters
is prohibited bec a use le a d de a cti-
v a tes the pollut a nt-reducing com-
ponents of the c a t a lyst system.
The converter is designed to l a st
the life of the motorcycle under
norm
a l us a ge a nd when unle a ded
fuel is used. Not speci a l m a inte-
n a nce is required on the con-
verter. However, it is very
import
a nt to keep the engine
properly tuned. Engine misfiring,
which c
a n result from a n improp-
erly tuned engine, m a y c a use
overhe a ting of the c a t a lyst. This
m a y result in perm a nent he a t
d a m a ge to the c a t a lyst a nd other
motorcycle components.


If you park or operate the
motorcycle in area

there are combu s tible materi-
al s s uch a s dry g ra ss or leave s ,
the s e material s may come in
contact with the catalytic con-
verter or other hot exhau
s t
component s . Thi s can cau s e a
fire.
Avoid parkin g or operatin g
your vehicle in area s with any
combu s tible material s .

precaution s :
• Maintain the en g ine in the
proper operatin g condition.
• In the event of an en g ine mal-
function, particularly one
involvin
g en g ine mi s fire or
other apparent performance

ss , s top ridin g the motorcy-
cle and turn off the en g ine
and have the motorcycle s er-
viced promptly.
• Do not s hut off the en g ine or
interrupt the i g nition when
the tran s mi ss ion i s in g ear
and the motorcycle i s in
motion.
• Do not try to s tart the en g ine
by pu s hin g the motorcycle or
by coa s tin g down a hill.
• Do not idle the en g ine with
any s park plu g wire s di s con-
nected or removed, s uch a s
durin g dia g no s tic te s tin g .
• Do not idle the vehicle for
prolon g ed period s if idlin g
s eem s rou g h or there are
other malfunction s .
• Do not allow the fuel tank to
g et near the empty level.
