3. Use a piece of paper to interrupt the beam
while the carrier controls are shown on the
display. The equipment should detect the
interruption to the beam and report this on the
display, and disable the carrier controls. When
the paper is removed from the beam, the carrier
controls should be re-enabled.
5.8 The Carrier Safety Edge
The sonic irrigator has an in- built pressure-
activated strip that runs around the top edge of
the tank and acts as a carrier safety edge.
In the event that an object becomes trapped
between the edge of the tank and the carrier as
it lowers into the tank, the safety edge is
activated. On activation of the safety edge, the
carrier stops it's downward travel, moves up
fractionally and then stops. The display reports
that the carrier safety edge has been activated.
The cause of the safety edge activation should
be investigated. The most common source of
activation is an instrument projecting out of a
basket, or a basket that is not fully docked into
the carrier. All baskets should be inspected to
make sure that they are fully docked and that all
instruments are fully contained within the
baskets. When the cause of the safety edge
activation has been identified and remedied, the safety edge can be reset by
touching the display prompt. The carrier becomes operational, and the carrier
controls on the display are enabled.
If an object has been trapped between the lid and safety edge such that it cannot be
removed easily, the carrier can be nudged upwards using the symbol at the
bottom-left of the screen. When the object can be removed easily, the safety edge
should then be reset and normal carrier operation resumed.
