PSE Conformance Test Suite Menus
Note
:
The PSE Conformance Test Suite Menus will be active if the connected PSA is enabled for PSE Conformance
Testing.
3.2.1.
PSE Conformance Tests Menu
The
PSE Conformance Tests
menu
(Figure 3.29)
provides access to each of the individual tests within the PSE
Conformance Test Suite. It also provides access to the PD Load Emulation sequences useful for data transmission
testing. The
PSE Conformance Test Suite
is the subject of Section 5. It enables the execution of individual tests run at
selected test ports.
The
PSE Tests
menu offers various
controls identical to each resource menu
including the slot and port selections as
well as PSA chassis selection (
Select
Chassis
).
PSE Tests
provides
PSE Description
controls that are relevant to PSE
Conformance Testing. These controls
include
PSE Type
,
30W Grant
, and
MPS Method
. Changes to these
settings will take effect immediately and
will be retained in any subsequently
saved
PSE Local Configuration Files
(See
Section 2.4.4
). Another PSE
Description control
, Power Range
,
establishes the mode of PD emulation
that will be carried out during PSE
Conformance Tests. This control allows Type-2 (
30 W
) PSE’s to be Conformance Tested against both Type-1 (normal
power) and Type-2 (high power) PD’s. Type-1 PSE’s must be tested under the
15.4 W
power range only. Type-1 and
Type-2 PSE’s are fully described in the new IEEE 802.3at specification. Finally, the Power Range setting will
determine which PSE Conformance Tests are to be included in the PSE Test list and, when set to
30 W
, will prompt
users to be sure that
PSA Port Combiners
(see Section 7) are connected to the PSA-1200 test port.
The PSE Type,
EndSpan
or
MidSpan
, does not affect any test logic but does have impact on PSE Conformance Test
Reporting discussed in Section 3.2.2 below. It is also used to exclude illegal PSE descriptions – a
MidSpan
Type-2
PSE for example cannot use
LLDP
for a 30W power grant. The
30 W Grant
setting describes how a Type-2 PSE will
grant high power (that is greater than 13 W) to a PD. The choices are
PHY
(for 2-event classification) or
LLDP
(for
link-layer protocol grants). A Type-1 PSE would have the setting of
NONE
since it is not capable of furnishing up to
30 Watts of power. The
30 W Grant
setting is used to enable a
Power Range
of
30 W
and is used in Conformance
Test Standard Report limit processing decisions. In future releases of PSA Conformance Test Suite, it will also govern
how tests go about establishing Type-2 power conditions.
The
MPS Method
describes which allowable method a PSE uses for detecting a PD disconnect and then removing
power from the PSE port. This setting determines which MPS tests will be available (
DC MPS
or
AC MPS
) and must
be set properly for the PSE.
The
Find MPS
button will run an application that automatically determines the MPS Method of a PSE connected to the
presently selected slot and port. This application is identical to the
Auto-Discover
button in the Port Configuration
Menu in that it will also discover and apply the proper ALT pairs and Polarity configurations to all test ports in the
PSA. Finally, under the PSE Test Select menu,
Find MPS
will also verify that any
AC MPS
type PSE’s do in fact
properly remove power when the PSA test port switch is disconnected and the AC MPS signature is removed. Note
that this particular behavior is unique to this menu.
The menu includes a scrolled list of available
PSE Conformance Tests
. The list will be affected by whether the
PSE
Description
includes
DC MPS
or
AC MPS
. It will also be altered according to the
15.4 W
versus
30 W
configuration.
The
TEST
button activates the selected test. The
Test Status
field reports the current status of the executing test and
the
Test Results
field presents the results of a test script when execution is completed. A
Show Traces
checkbox
enables any voltage or current waveforms that are captured as part of the selected PSE test to be sequentially displayed
