Manually Sectioning the Specimen (Final Shaving)
When the specimen has been cut to flat surface, perform sectioning (final shaving).
Release the TRIM key and turn the handwheel, and the specimen will be cut to the preset section
thickness.
Besides manual sectioning, you can use the Anti-Roll Rake or Anti-Roll Plate.
For the details of manual sectioning, refer to the next item, "Sectioning Manually."
Refer to p. 2-13 for information on how to use the Anti-Roll Rake.
Refer to p. 2-14 for information on how to use the Anti-Roll Plate.
If the instrument is not used for a certain period of time, it enters the standby mode (refer to p. 2-3) and
the specimen head moves to its home (farthest at the back).
Sectioning Manually
Section (final shaving) the roughly shaved specimen by flattening the
section using a brush, etc.
It is recommended that you collect the fifth and subsequent sections,
because the first three or four sections tend to have unstable
thickness due to temperature difference, etc.
1. When the rough shaving is complete, release the TRIM key and
slowly turn the handwheel.
After sectioning of the specimen starts, hold the sectioning tip with
the brush [1].
2. Turn the handwheel by slowly flattening the section toward you
with the brush, and cut the section as is expanded on the stage [2].
Be careful not to let the section curl up.
3. Slowly move the glass slide closer to the section from above, and
the section will be attached to the glass slide due to temperature
difference [3].
Be careful not to cut your hand with the disposable blade.
The glass slide onto which to acquire the section should not be
put in the chamber until immediately before acquiring the section.
