Setting the Frozen Block on the Specimen Head
Set the block you have just frozen on the specimen head.
When setting the block, put the blade guard on and be sure to lock
the handwheel. Also wear protective gears such as rubber gloves.
1. Separate the Cryomold from the frozen specimen.
Hold the knob on the Object Holder to separate the Object
Holder [1].
Only the standard round/square Object Holders have this knob
(p. 1-12).
2. While raising the specimen head locking lever [2], place the
frozen block onto the specimen head [3].
In doing so, the side bearing the number should contact the
placement surface, with the tissue sample facing toward you
(and up).
3. Release the specimen head locking lever to lock the specimen
head [4]
Refer to p. 2-7 if the specimen head angle must be adjusted.
If compound, etc., is deposited on the installation surface or
tapered part of the Object Holder or to the specimen head, the
Object Holder may not be installed properly and cause
sectioning problems or instrument malfunction. Install the
Object Holder after removing any unnecessary deposits.
When installing or adjusting the orientation of a specimen, be
sure to lock the handwheel in addition to setting the blade
guard. If the handwheel remains unlocked, the specimen
head may move during the operation and cause unexpected
injuries.
When separating the Object Holder from the Cryomold after
cooling, wear protective gears and be sure to keep any
contact with the Object Holder brief. You may get frostbite.
