Sectioning
Preparing for Manual Sectioning (Final Shaving)
To perform manual sectioning, adjust the specimen head position and cut the specimen to flat surface first.
Then, check the section thickness and perform sectioning (final shaving).
Press the home position key to move the specimen head to
the sectioning start position.
Move the specimen head to the position at which to start sectioning.
You can easily move the specimen head to the preset sectioning start
position by pressing the home position key on the left panel.
The specimen head moves forward if currently positioned to the rear of the
home position, or moves backward if currently positioned to the front of the
home position, and stops at the sectioning start position.
Refer to p. 1-34 if you want to change the home position setting.
To fine-tune the position after pressing the home position key, press the R
key and F key to adjust the position.
Pressing the R key moves the specimen head backward. Pressing the F
key moves the specimen head forward.
The specimen head moves 10
µ
m every time each key is pressed. Press
and hold the key, and the specimen head moves further.
The home position may not be appropriate depending on the height or
orientation angle of the frozen block. Turn the handwheel slowly to
check the home position.
Press the home position key when the specimen head is at the
handwheel lock tab position. If the specimen head is not at the lock
position, an error sound is output as the home position key is pressed
and the specimen head does not move.
Cutting the Specimen to Flat Surface (Rough Shaving)
Cut the set specimen to flat surface (rough shaving).
Turn the handwheel while holding down the TRIM key on the left panel to
cut the specimen to flat surface at the preset TRIM thickness.
Refer to p. 1-31 if you want to change the TRIM thickness.
Turn the handwheel while holding down the TRIM key, and the TRIM
icon will appear on the screen. The value shown on the icon indicates
the current TRIM thickness.
Checking the Section Thickness for Sectioning
(Final Shaving)
When the specimen has been cut to flat surface, check the section
thickness to be used for sectioning (final shaving). Change the section
thickness, if necessary.
Pressing the "Section Thickness Setting" button on the [SECTION] Tab
Screen displays the section thickness setting screen. Refer to p. 1-30 for
