Preparing for Sectioning
Adjusting the Specimen Head
Adjust the orientation (angle) of the specimen head so that the frozen block set on the specimen head will
be sectioned correctly. This adjustment is also effective when you have difficulty cutting the specimen to flat
surface (rough shaving).

Anti-Roll Rake
This is an Anti-Roll Rake. Refer to p. 2-13 for the method of use.

Anti-Roll Rake adjustment screw
You can adjust the height of the Anti-Roll Rake using this screw.

Specimen head orientation
• X-axis (lateral angle) adjustment screw
You can adjust the angle in the lateral direction by turning this screw. Turn the screw upward to move
the specimen head to the left, or turn it downward to move the specimen head to the right.
• Y-axis (lateral angle) adjustment screw
You can adjust the angle in the vertical direction by turning this screw. Turn the screw
counterclockwise to move the specimen head down, or turn it clockwise to move the specimen head
up.

Angle adjustment locking lever
This lever locks the vertical angle adjustment screw and lateral angle adjustment screw.
Raise the lever toward you to unlock the screws so that the angles can be adjusted.

Specimen head locking lever
Put the raised lever back to lock the frozen block.
Adjusting the Specimen Head Orientation (Angle)
1. Raise the angle adjustment locking lever toward you to unlock the specimen head.
2. Turn the vertical angle adjustment screw to adjust the specimen head in the vertical direction. Turn the
lateral angle adjustment screw to adjust the specimen head in the lateral direction.
3. When the adjustment is complete, tilt the angle adjustment locking lever away from you to lock the
specimen head.
When installing or adjusting the orientation of a specimen, be sure to lock the handwheel in addition to
setting the blade guard. If the handwheel remains unlocked, the specimen head may move during the
operation and cause unexpected injuries.
