Installing the USB Data Cable
The USB data cable plugs into the panel boards in five places and the USB controller once. The data
cable has six headers spaced along its length and will only reach all the necessary sockets if it is
installed correctly. One end of the cable is marked to indicate it is to be installed into the CPU board.
Ensure that you start with this end of the data cable.
Notice the red line running the length of the data cable along one edge. This line denotes pin 1 of the
cable and is used to verify cable polarity during installation. Keep this in mind when installing the
USB data cable.
Use the following procedure to install the USB data cable:
1. Determine which end of the USB data cable plugs into the
Panel CPU Board
(4216A-033). Plug this end into the
Panel CPU Board
socket labeled
Panel Switch
and secure the latches around the cable header. The socket is located on the
Panel CPU
Board
next to the
Floppy Disk
socket.

2. Run the cable past the power supply (run the cable between the two power supplies if
your switcher has redundant power supplies) to the socket labeled
J1
on
Board
4216A-036
. It is located next to the USB controller.
•
The data cable must be folded twice to facilitate easy connection with this socket.
Holding the cable vertically, fold it with a twist so that you change its direction by
90 degrees (see diagram below). This first fold should be approximately 2 inches
(5 cm) before the header.
•
Make a second fold with a twist so that you change the direction of the cable by 90
degrees as shown in the diagram. The cable should now run across socket
J1
and
the next data cable header should easily fit into the socket.
•
Plug the header into the socket and secure the latches.
Caution
DO NOT FORCE THE DATA CABLE INTO THE SOCKET.
If it does not fit easily into the socket, you may be attempting to install
it in the wrong orientation. Match the notch in the center of the cable
header with the notch cutout in the
Panel Switch
socket.
Caution
The latches that hold the data cable are fragile. Be careful when
opening and closing them.
