Preparing to install the hardware
Card mounting considerations
The FC HBA is low-profile PCI Express 4 card. It plugs into one of the full-
height PCIe (PCI Express) slots of the Profiler chassis. The WWN (world wide
name) of each of the two ports is printed beside the connector. Although these are
visible after the card is installed in the chassis, it may be more convenient to
record them before installing the card.
Cabling considerations
The FC HBA card has two 4-Gbps Fibre Channel connectors. The connectors are
LC-style for small form factor (SFF) multimode fiber optic cables. They can be
connected to a Fibre Channel switch or storage device over the following lengths
of cable:
Speed (4/2/1 Gbps
auto-negotiated) 50/125 μ m fiber cable 62.5/125 μ m fiber cable
4.2480 Gbps 150 meters 70 meters
2.1240 Gbps 300 meters 150 meters
1.0625 Gbps 500 meters 300 meters
Ensure that cables with the correct connectors are available at the Profiler
mounting location to connect the FC ports to the SAN device.
