Straight-through cables are available at the rack locations for connecting the
Profiler modules to the switch. (One cable per chassis.)
•
A terminal device (laptop, KVM, etc.) is available on the management
network for logging in to the Profiler user interface.
Monitored network (Express and Sensor only)
All Cascade Sensor and Express appliances (except flow-monitoring-only Express
models) connect via straight-through cables to taps or mirror ports on the
monitored network.
Models that use electrical cables include 2-port 10/100/1000baseTX (RJ45)
connectors. Models that use optical cables include 2-port 1000baseSX connectors.
Ensure that optical cables are multimode fiber with LC connectors.
Sensor configurations include:
•
1-port copper; 10/100/1000 Mbps; RJ45 connector
•
2-port copper, 10/100/1000 Mbps; RJ45 connectors
•
2-port fiber, 1 Gbps; multimode fiber with LC connectors
•
2-port fiber, 1 Gbps; single mode fiber with LC connectors
•
2-port fiber, 10 Gbps; single mode fiber with LC connectors
•
2-port fiber; 10 Gbps; multimode fiber with LC connectors
•
4-port copper, 10/100/1000 Mbps; RJ45 connectors
•
4-port fiber; 1 Gbps; multimode fiber with LC connectors
Ensure that the necessary mirror ports are set up and that the cables are available
in the rack where the Sensor or Express is to be installed.
NAS port (Profiler and Express only)
If the Cascade appliance uses a NAS device, it can be connected via a crossover
cable directly to the
AUX
port. Alternatively, the Cascade appliance can access a
NAS device over the management network.
If the Cascade appliance will use a NAS device on the management network,
then:
•
It must have auto-negotiation on.
•
The switch port that it connects to must have auto-negotiation on and must
have 1000Mb/s capabilities configured.
