Calibrating the Axis Base Offset
Note: TRAINED PERSONNEL ONLY – CONSULT RITTAL TECHNICAL SERVICE BEFORE MAKING OFFSET
CHANGES
Each time an Axis motor or pinion gear is replaced, or any time the motor/gearbox assembly
is removed, a Base Offset must be established.
o
After the motor replacement has been accomplished, preform a Master Reference first, see
Section 3.20.
Caution: When picking up the first tool after a motor replacement/pinion change, the axis will not be
lined up with the original settings. A collision may occur if run at full speed; slow down the speed
override, to a creep speed, and watch the tool alignment as the Z-Axis is moving toward the tool. If
you see a drastic variance in the alignment, stop the machine and follow the steps below.
3.21.1
Axis Alignment – Test Program
To correct axis alignment, a test program will be created with one drilled hole;
Create a main program containing one drilled hole, preferably a smaller drill. Give the
Single Process (SP) the coordinates of 100mm in X and Y. An accuracy measurement will
be taken to compare the target and actual position.
Install a scrap/test panel which will correspond with the previously created main
program.
3.21.2
Axis Alignment – IB Start Drilling
This option, will prompt the operator, to manually install the needed tool into the spindle and
do one operation, then pause. The primary use of this option is for calibrating the X and Y
axis.
Go to [3] Service, [1] Machine, [1] Machine parameters
o
While on the Machine tab, insure that the X and Y offsets are set to 0.00.
o
Select the Machine Configurations tab
o
Put a check mark in the box labeled “IB Start Drilling”.
o
Press [F10 OK] to save the change.
