Replacement
Install the spindle on the spindle mount
plate. Make sure that the spindle is
correctly aligned with the plate, 68mm
for the HSD 939 (78mm for the HSD
951) from the spindle face flange to the
leading edge of the spindle mount
plate. Repeat this measurement both
on the top and the bottom of the spindle
for a “true or square” alignment, plate
to spindle.
Check that the Z-Axis pinion gear has not
moved (Marked tooth remains in the 12 o’clock position).
Check the alignment of the linear way bearings, be sure to keep them in their original
position, which was marked before removal. This will correctly align the Z-Axis rack to the
pinion gear.
Reinstall the spindle mount plate to the linear way bearings and tighten the 16 mounting
bolts.
Now that the spindle and mount plate are back in place, the Z-Axis adjustment bolt can
be tightened slightly so that the pinion gear firmly meshes with the pinion rack. Only
slight tension is needed, do not force the pinion into the rack. Too much tension will
damage the pinion gear.
Tighten the Z-Axis motor mount bolts.
Reconnect the air hoses and electrical connections.
