10. Equipment Check
A. Take out the equipment (e.g. safety knife, sea anchor & line, rescue quoit & line, and
paddles, etc.) from the liferaft, check them one by one and replace them if there is
any defect.
B. Open the equipment pack (emergency pack), take out the equipment items inside,
check them one by one and replace those in poor condition due to damage or those
that expire within 6 months. Refer to Chapter 7 for a list of all equipment.
NOTE: Each of the items below may not be supplied in some emergency
packs. Refer to the contents label for the contents of the pack.
1. Discard any stock which is out-of-date, as given in the applicable regulations
of the country.
2. Check the pyrotechnics for general condition. Any pyrotechnics with dents,
corrosion, or other visible damage should be replaced. Replace any
pyrotechnics if they have expired, or will expire within 6 months.
3. Check the handbooks and leaflets. Make sure they are in good condition and
legible.
4. Test the torch/flashlight and batteries. Make sure they function correctly and
are not damaged.
NOTE:
Check the expiration date on the torch/flashlight batteries. If the expi-
ration date will be reached before the next scheduled service, replace
the batteries.
5. Check the first aid kit, bailers and paddles. Make sure they are not corroded
or damaged. Make sure the first aid kit has not expired. If necessary, replace
any defective parts.
6. Examine the repair kit, for damage to the contents. If necessary, replace any
damaged items.
7. Visually check water packets for any signs of damage. Squeeze packets and
check for leaks.
