Inspection and Checking
1. Inspection of Raft
A. Inflate the liferaft with clean and dry compressed air by using special inflating hose
until it is well formed. Take out the emergency pack and disconnect the canopy
lights.
B. Take a visual inspection of the liferaft. Wash and wipe with soft cloth if a liferaft is
dirty, contaminated, or shows signs of mildew. Dry it in a ventilated place. Refer to
Chapter 3, Cleaning.
C. Inspect the whole liferaft carefully: look for any abrasion, aging on the raft body
any shifting and degumming of the connected seams of the rubber fabric, any
degumming between the upper and lower buoy tubes, between canopy arch and
upper tube, between boarding ramp and lower tube or between floor and lower tube;
and any break of stitches on the canopy. For the davit-launched liferaft, check the
condition of the suspending straps and its seat patches to see whether there is any
separated or contaminated places. Clearly mark all places which will be repaired.
D. Inspect the cylinder pocket for any separation, tearing, or rust on the metal wrapping
eyes. Any defects shall be repaired or reinforced.
E. Inspect the connection of the parts which are subject to additional stress, such as
patches of towing rope, the boarding ramp and the righting strap. All defective areas
shall be repaired or replaced.
2. Inspection of Inflation System
A. Inspection of painterline.
1. Check the painterline and the activating line. If there is any mildew or
damage, replace them.
2. Check the joint of the painterline and the activating line to confirm they are
tied tightly. Retie them if necessary.
