3. Unpacking the Liferaft
A.
Put the container onto a suitable pushcart or cradle. Make sure it is held securely.
Position the push cart so that the container is next to the packing table.
B.
For throw-over containers, cut off the weak-links between the metal buttons of the
upper half and lower half of the container and the packing straps of the container.
Carefully remove the upper half of the container.
C.
For davit-launch containers, lift the top of the orange hook and loop straps and cut
the cord securing them together. Cut any packing straps on the container. Carefully
remove the upper half of the container.
D.
Disconnect the activating lines on the operating head of each cylinder so as to avoid
activation of the cylinders.
E.
Take the painter bag and the liferaft out of the lower half of container and lay it flat
on floor or packing table.
F.
Using an open end wrench, disconnect the cylinders from the non-return inlet check
valve.
WARNING:
Place a recoil cap on cylinder firing head before transport.
CAUTION:
Do not pull the inflation activating lines attached to the operating heads
of the cylinders to avoid any personal injury!
G.
Remove the cylinders from the cylinder pocket and place them in a vise.
H.
Remove the firing head and weigh the cylinder (See Chapter 1 Table 1) for proper
size and weight. Refer to Chapter 4, Section 2 for removal of firing head.
I.
Unroll the liferaft completely. Remove the equipment pack(s) and set them aside.
J.
