Warning / Avertissement
•
Creating a network loop without employing a network path protocol such as N-Ring, N-Link, or RSTP is an
illegal operation that can create a network storm which will crash the network.
•
La création d'un réseau sans boucle employant un chemin réseau protocole tels que N-Ring, N-Link, ou RSTP
est une opération illégale que peut créer une tempête du réseau qui va planter le réseau.
2.6.2.1 Connect
the
Ethernet
Cable
If you are connecting to the unit via the copper port, you will need a straight or crossover cable with two 8-pin RJ45
connectors on each end.
To visually confirm that Ethernet cabling was done properly, check the LED indication on the Ethernet port of the
unit. The link LED should be on when the correct cable is used.
Note:
A shielded cable is required to fully meet EMC standards.
When using shielded cables, it is generally recommended to only connect the shield at one end to prevent ground
loops and interference with low level signals (i.e. thermocouples, RTD, etc.). CAT5E cables manufactured to EIA-
568A or 568B specifications are required for use with Red Lion series switches.
In the event all CAT5E patch cables are short (i.e. All Ethernet devices are located in the same local cabinet and/or
referenced to the same earth ground), it is permissible to use fully shielded cables terminated to chassis ground at
both ends in systems avoid low level analog signals.
