Manual LPR/LPD Host Setup
The PrintNet also supports Unix operating systems which follow a
BSD print system (e.g., SunOS 4.1.x). This means a printcap file is
used to define all printers available on the host, and interface
scripts are not commonly used. Instead, LPR/LPD printers are
defined.
To manually configure an LPR/LPD printer on a BSD Unix system:
1.
Define an entry for this new printer within the printcap file, /etc/
printcap.
Syntax:
printername:
:sh:pw#80:mx#0:\
:rm=
NICname
:\
:rp=
NICdestination
:\
:lp=:\
:sd=/usr/spool/lpd/
printername
:\
:lf=/usr/spool/lpd/
printername
/log:\
:af=/usr/spool/lpd/
printername
/acct:
where
printername
is any name you would like to give to this
new printer,
NICname
is the host or IP name of the print
server, and
NICdestination
is one of the pre-defined
destinations/queues on the device.
Example:
P5000:
:sh:pw#80:mx#0:\
:rm=spike:\
:rp=d1prn:\
:lp=:\
:sd=/usr/spool/lpd/ P5000:\
:lf=/usr/spool/lpd/ P5000/log:\
:af=/usr/spool/lpd/ P5000/acct:
