Using the Advanced surround effects
The Advanced su rr ound effects can be used fo r a va r iety of
additional su rr ound sound effects. Most Advanced Su rr ound
modes a r e designed to be used with film soundt r acks, but
some modes a r e also suited fo r music sou r ces. T r y diffe r ent
settings with va r ious soundt r acks to see which you like.
1 Set the remote control to the receiver operation
mode.
2 Press ADV SURR (ADVANCED SURROUND)
repeatedly to select a listening mode.
• ACTION – Designed fo r action movies with dynamic
soundt r acks
• DRAMA – Designed fo r movies with lots of dialog
• SCI-FI – Designed fo r science fiction with lots of
special effects

MONO FILM
– C r eates su rr ound sound f r om mono
soundt r acks
•
ENT.SHOW
– Suitable fo r musical sou r ces
• EXPANDED – C r eates an ext r a wide ste r eo field
• TV SURROUND – P r ovides su rr ound sound fo r both
mono and ste r eo TV sou r ces

ADVANCED GAME
– Suitable fo r video games
• SPORTS – Suitable fo r spo r ts p r og r ams
• CLASSICAL – Gives a la r ge conce r t hall-type sound
• ROCK/POP – C r eates a live conce r t sound fo r r ock
and/o r pop music

UNPLUGGED
– Suitable fo r acoustic music sou r ces
• EXT.STEREO – Gives multichannel sound to a ste r eo
sou r ce, using all of you r speake r s
• PHONES SURR – When listening th r ough
headphones, you can still get the effect of ove r all
su rr ound.
Tip
• When an Advanced Su rr ound listening mode is
selected, the effect level can be adjusted using the
EFFECT pa r amete r in Setting the Audio options on
page 71.
Listening in stereo
When you select STEREO , you will hea r the sou r ce
th r ough just the f r ont left and r ight speake r s (and
possibly you r subwoofe r depending on you r speake r
settings). Multichannel sou r ces a r e downmixed to
ste r eo.
1 Set the remote control to the receiver operation
mode.
2 While listening to a source, press STEREO for stereo
playback.
P r ess r epeatedly to switch between:
• STEREO – The audio is hea r d with you r sound
settings and you can still use the audio options.

Using Front Stage Surround Advance
The F r ont Stage Su rr ound Advance function allows you to
c r eate natu r al su rr ound sound effects using just the f r ont
speake r s and the subwoofe r .
1 Set the remote control to the receiver operation
mode.
2 While listening to a source, press STEREO to select
Front Stage Surround Advance modes.

• F.S.SURR FOCUS – Use to p r ovide a r ich su rr ound
sound effect di r ected to the cente r of whe r e the f r ont
left and r ight speake r s sound p r ojection a r ea
conve r ges.
• F.S.SURR WIDE – Use to p r ovide a su rr ound sound
effect to a wide r a r ea than FOCUS mode.
