Important
• The p r ocedu r e fo r setting the r eceive r ope r ation
mode diffe r s fo r the r emote cont r ols included with
the SC-LX83 and SC-LX73. Fo r the SC-LX83’s r emote
cont r ol, set the r emote cont r ol ope r ation selecto r
switch to
RECEIVER
. Fo r the SC-LX73’s r emote
cont r ol, p r ess the button. When “set the
r emote cont r ol to the r eceive r ope r ation mode” is
indicated in these inst r uctions, use the r espective
p r ocedu r e desc r ibed above.
• The listening modes and many featu r es desc r ibed in
this section may not be available depending on the
cu
rr ent sou r ce, settings and status of the r eceive r .
Auto playback
The r e a r e many ways to listen back to sou r ces using this
r eceive r , but the simplest, most di r ect listening option is
the Auto Su rr ound featu r e. The r eceive r automatically
detects what kind of sou r ce you’ r e playing and selects
multichannel o r ste r eo playback as necessa r y.
1 Set the remote control to the receiver operation
mode.
2 While listening to a source, press AUTO/ALC/
DIRECT (AUTO SURR/ALC/STREAM DIRECT) for auto
playback of a source.

showing the decoding o r playback fo r mat. Check the
digital fo r mat indicato r s in the f r ont panel display to see
how the sou r ce is being p r ocessed.
• If the sou r ce is Dolby Digital, DTS, o r Dolby Su rr ound
encoded, the p r ope r decoding fo r mat will
automatically be selected and shows in the display.
• When listening to the FM r adio, the Neu r al Su rr ound
featu r e is selected automatically (see
Using Neural
Surround
on page 51 fo r mo r e on this).
• When listening to the
ADAPTER PORT
input, the
SOUND RETRIEVER AIR featu r e is selected
automatically (see Listening in stereo on page 57 fo r
mo r e on this).
ALC – In the Auto level cont r ol ( ALC ) mode, this r eceive r
equalizes playback sound levels.
OPTIMUM SURR
(SC-LX83 only)
– In the Optimum
Su rr ound mode, this r eceive r automatically optimizes
sound balance in each scene based on actually set
volume. The sound balance
r cont r ols th r ee majo r theate r
sound elements dialogue, bass and su rr ound with
o r iginal algo r ithm.
Tip
• When ALC is selected, the effect level can be
adjusted using the EFFECT pa r amete r in
Setting the
Audio options
on page 71.
Listening in surround sound
Using this r eceive r , you can listen to any sou r ce in
su rr ound sound. Howeve r , the options available will
depend on you r speake r setup and the type of sou r ce
you’ r e listening to.
Standard surround sound
The following modes p r ovide basic su rr ound sound fo r
ste r eo and multichannel sou r ces.
1 Set the remote control to the receiver operation
mode.
2 While listening to a source, press STANDARD
(STANDARD SURROUND).
If necessa r y, p r ess r epeatedly to select a listening mode.
• If the sou r ce is Dolby Digital, DTS, o r Dolby Su rr ound
encoded, the p r ope r decoding fo r mat will
automatically be selected and shows in the display.
