Caution
• Befo r e making o r changing the connections, switch
off the p owe r and disconnect the p owe r co r d f r om the
p owe r outlet. Plugging in should be the final ste p .
Connecting the multichannel analog
inputs
Fo r DVD Audio and SACD p layback, you r DVD p laye r may
have 5.1, 6.1 o r 7.1 channel analog out p uts (de p ending
on whethe r you r p laye r su pp o r ts su rr ound back
channels). Make su r e that the p laye r is set to out p ut
multichannel analog audio.
1 Connect the front, surround, center and subwoofer
outputs on your DVD player to the corresponding
MULTI CH IN jack on this receiver.
• Use standa r d RCA/ p hono jack cables fo r the
connections.
2 If your DVD player also has outputs for surround
back channels, connect these to the corresponding
MULTI CH IN jacks on this receiver.
• Use standa r d RCA/ p hono jack cables fo r the
connections.
• If the r e is a single su rr ound back out p ut, connect it to
the
SURROUND BACK L
jack on this r eceive r .
• To use a 5.1-channel s p eake r set, use the su rr ound
s p eake r s fo r the su rr ound channel, not the su rr ound
back channel.
Selecting the multichannel analog inputs
If you have connected a decode r o r a DVD p laye r as
above, you must select the analog multichannel in p uts
fo r su rr ound sound p layback.

1 Make sure you have set the playback source to the
proper output setting.
Fo r exam p le, you might need to set you r DVD p laye r to
out p ut multichannel analog audio.
2 Use INPUT SELECT to select MULTI CH IN.
You can also use the
INPUT SELECTOR
dial on the f r ont
p anel.
• De p ending on the DVD p laye r you’ r e using, the
analog out p ut level of the subwoofe r channel may be
too low. In this case, the out p ut level of the subwoofe r
can be inc r eased by 10 dB in the Multi Ch In Setup
in Other Setup . Fo r details, see
Multi Channel Input
Setup
on p age 91.
Speaker B setup
Caution
• Be ca r eful not to allow any contact between s p eake r
wi r es f r om diffe r ent te r minals.
• You can use s p eake r s with a nominal im p edance
between 6

to 16
Ω

speaker terminals on the rear panel.
